Soundtrack brings the art of music composing to everyone. With minimal cost and effort, you can produce custom music to your video, DVD or Web project. You won?t need to license a song or hire a composer with Soundtrack at your fingertips. Now you can make your own royalty-free music perfectly matched to the mood you?re after. Whether you?ve never written a piece of music before or you?re a seasoned composer, Soundtrack lets you lay down tracks and cut a mix in no time.

Music composing for everyone at 299? Price seems a little steep.

Apple is also offering Final Cut Express for free if you currently are using Premiere. Final Cut Express is 99 when you buy a new Mac.

Steep at 299? Well, that's not too expensive if you don't need the rest of Final Cut Pro 4 for 999. This looks like exactly the same app that's now included in FCP4, FWIW.

i saw a demo of it a couple of months ago while attending a motion graphics meeting here in dallas that apple was hosting. they showed off all their new pro software like shake, dvdstudio pro, and finalcut. i must say that of all the stuff i saw, i was most impressed with soundtrack. the simplicity is genius, yet powerful none the less. very cool little app.

$299 is very fair. Acid has always been $350+ and Mac users where left out unless they used VPC.

I'm glad. This means the app will be updated on it's own meaning more features...better performance in a more timely fashion.

i recently got FCP4, and i must say, i thought that apple was doing a poor job of marketing how awesome the included apps are... LiveType is really awesome for titles, and they include like 3 other top notch high end video programs, but the coolest one, by far was soundtrack... I was blown away at how easy it is to use, and how awesome it sounds.

I thought as soon as i played with it that it should be sold as its own program. I think it's for sure worth 299...

but is the box version any better than the FCP version? more included loops? i don't want to have to be jealous!

I don't think they really need to market FCP and it's friends as much as they do the iBook and iTMS, etc. People who would use FCP probably already know about it. They need to focus on good consumer comercials.

It appears that you can use Soundtrack without owning FCP. Has anyone used it with QT movies? I am assuming this is the only way I could get iMovie to work with it.

Could you make an audio track with Soundtrack and then import it into iMovie? Obviously, synchronizing the track in FCP would be more powerful/easier.

Just watched the videos on the Apple website. Looks like it would be fun to play with.
