Aussies - Telstra BigPond cable experience

Hi fellow Aussies

I am thinking of connecting to Telstra (as my ISP) and getting cable, yet the person on the phone told me today that they do not support Max OS X 10.2. Surely, this can't be correct? I presume it is just because their technicians are unfamiliar with the OS.

Anyway, if any of you have managed to get online with Telstra's cable service, I'd sure appreciate hearing your stories or any words of advice.

Thanks.

Btw, is it just me or have people been getting bumped off these boards (and in general) when using Safari lately? Very frustrating!

Even though I'm not an Aussie, it should be technically possible to use their service even if they don't say it's OSX compatible. Here in the States, SBC said that 10.0(this was two years ago) wouldn't work with their DSL. This was all after the CompUSA salesman had told us it would, and after we had ordered DSL. So, when I got the modem, I plugged it in just to see what would happen. Not to my surprise, it worked. All I had to do was find the DNS server names in the Windows install manual, and place them in System Preferences.

P.S. Safari does seem to have some problems with AI.

Ive used Telstra BigPond ADSL for arround a year, and it works without a hinch! The only weird thing is that you CANT choose a DNS server, if you do you wont get online. If you are referring to the Telstra BigPond FoxTel TV + Cable deal, im not sure. I suppose it works. Call again and ask if it supports MacOS X. If they say no, ask if it supports UNIX, still no ? Ask them if they follow standards.

Anywho, Telstra is expensive! If you are just looking for Internet, try Dodo Internet, which are uncapped. dodo.com.au. Stupid website, not so stupid internet plans.

Yep, some other people have been complaining about staying hitched..somewhere in the genius bar you'll see reference to it.

Re Broadband Net Pricing.. Depends on where you live...

    Telstra is way 2Xpensive.

    Try http://www.tpg.com.au

WARNING : " DODO "..have been busted by consumer affairs as well as Federal Government for lots of dodgy dealings..like switching your phone connections from local to STD without you knowing...they're Shonks.

Maybe they're called DoDo because that's what their management think of us consumers. Dumb birds...

See the magazine " InterNET.Au " for details on this issue : as well as the latest broadband pricings.

    C'arn the Crows !
