Cringely's "Notes From The Field"....Real or Not?

Anybody here read Bob Cringely's "Notes From The Field" column that he writes for InfoWorld? In his last column his "girlfriend" for the last little while ran out on him.....are the "real life" spots in those columns for-real, or do you think he just adds them for poetic license? Just curious...
