Hey, I messed around a bit with some G5 pics, and some audio. Check it out and tell me what you think. Big thanks to Murbot for hosting!

somebody should recut the G5 intro video and splice together all the "ass kicking" lines

"edgy" voice-overs from WWDC demo folk. not quite the anti-goldblum.

I liked it except for the anti-climax. You get excited thinking "Oh God what's the computer going to do???" the Jeff's voice comes on. Boo. Overall very dark and dramatic. 2 big toes up.

Yea, wasn't sure what to do at the end, so I just threw jeff in. Also, that keynote idea is good. I might have to try it out.

Scenario not unlikely: Ask a person on the street, "Did you see that commercial with the guys house being blown up by his computer?" He or she says, "Yes!". Ok, what brand of computer are they selling? Answer, "Ummm, Dell?" My, for what it's worth prediction is that regognition of the brand name of the computer will be very low. In the annals of commercials this has happened for years and years.

Now that parody and the outright theft of idea cum-parody (BuyMusic.com) of Apple's switcher ads have come and gone, it is time to change the white background thing! It is still good as an ambience in the Apple stores, but it needs a change.

    More metal...

cub23: I'd get really detailed views of the G5 internals with the blue highlights and do your Ken Burns Effects in a more up-close panning like flying over the NY skyline.

You shouldn't show the entire machine - only zoomed in parts of it. Then people will go "wow - what is this!?" So cut out the three last pics - they're underwhelming

If you are ever going to re-do this, try to add some clips from the G5 video, not the commercial, the video where paul s. and jon r. talk, they have some good clips there

I was thinking of adding video of it from that too, except I can't find a screen capture tool that doesn't have a watermark on it. Anyone know of any freebies?

definitely gotta record a different voice, or apply filters to that goldblum clip to try and make it more powerful.

Why don't you just save the original video and copy parts from it directly?

You can save it w/out having pro, but it takes a little legwork and poking around in the page source to get a URL that will allow you to save from a web browser.

Brad, is it within the posting guidelines to post the URL? I don't want to post something that shouldn't be.

It's public domain. Anyone else can read the source just as well as you can. Post away.

Should work in Safari and other browsers for saving once it's completely downloaded (use file menu--> save or save as).

Edit: Okay, so I can't seem to get the links to work properly, not sure if it's a VB issue with parsing the URL?

Anyways, here's instructions of what I did:

    Go to the video page:

    http://www.apple.com/powermac/video/introvideo240.html

(If you want the bigger versions, then use introvideo320.html or introvideo480.html)

    View source on the page.

Search for ".mov" and copy the URL. Edit the end of the URL so it says g5_intro_m240.mov (or g5_intro_m320.mov or g5_intro_m480.mov depending on what size you want), then load that URL. Let it download all the way, then try file--> save as.
