setting up e-commerce in the uk

I'm a web designer.



Many clients want little shops on their site, and I've not done this before. I have no back-end experience.



Is there a UK-based service which sorts this stuff out for you? I don't know what e-commerce *software* actually *does*...



...can someone tell me what I need?!
