Wow. Did we all miss this, or did nobody deem it worthy of noting? The darn construction company here at school cut our fibre cable the other day, so I didn't have access to the net to catch this gem... was it already discussed? Anywho... Here's the CNN article: http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/interne....ap/index.html

Now, apparently some schools are fighting the subpoena for the actual names of the students... they are claiming that the subpoenas were incorrectly filed. http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/interne....ap/index.html

And TechTV (http://www.techtv.com/news/culture/s...484600,00.html) listed all the user names that are under the subpoenas... ALL of them are from Kazaa, with 3 under Grokster, and one poor soul for filesharing, and their name was "flowerpower." May I ask, what PC user would name their computer flowerpower? Let's give a heartfelt "Awww" for this poor Mac user that's getting slapped upside the head from the RIAA.

I really don't think that the RIAA is going to make any friends by sending out greeting cards - erm, I mean subpoenas to everyone under the sun. Along the same lines, I was REALLY upset when I discovered that one of the CDs that I just bought was copy protected. I can't even get past it with a magic marker. GRRR.

i don't know where to stand on this issue to be honest.

I'm guessing though that they are going after MAJOR downloaders first.

I don't know, as a consumer I'm pissed, but, well, they did break the law \
