OS 10.1.4 Server spinning woes - ideas?

We have a QuickSilver 1 Gig Server running 10.1.4 with 768 RAM. Whenever someone on the network does a search (of the 3 volumes on the server), all the other Macs go into "Spinning Beachball Mode". Once the search is over, the beachball goes away and operations return to normal. Also spins when one of our Macs boots into OS9.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

    I'd really get 10.2 server. I have a copy of 10.1 server and it's just really not that good. Not very powerful, and not alot of features. I really wouldn't invest any time into it. it's old and outdated.

    Sounds good to me. Only problem is the $900 it costs to upgrade!! That's absolutely insane to me...
