Chances are it's not his browser doing it. It the Windows messenger service. That service is terrible. My fiancee's parents got pop ups anytime their computer was on because they didn't have a router or firewall installed. "Make this your last pop-up!" they would say. Anyway, a quick google search and I found out how to disable it.

It looks like he's SOL if he's running Win98 or ME.

i have XP in my room and its not the messenger service (though some might be) its like pop ups like u would get in IE...its REALLY annoying...i am thinking its because of kazaa...but i will turn of the messenger service too so they don't get those popups like tortifile is talking about

    Download Spybot Search & Destroy.

You will be amazed at all the tracking cookies and data miners, etc. that this little program will find.

I also use AdAware, but Spybot seems to find more junk.

Both are free so use them!

Also, get him off IE like Paul suggested. There are so many better browsers than IE and all of them have builtin pop-up protection.

    Look here for better browsers.

    Good luck!

i went and fixed it today...after running search and destroy it found about 40 things, then once i ran adware it found about 160 others, and removed them...at that point it was running normal speed again and popups were only seeming to happen at restart

it was kazaa media desktop which i had to delete...because i couldn't uninstall kazaa so i did it manually

...though who knows what is left, i just deleted the kazaa folder and the mediea desktop wherever it is...problems seem to be solved for now

    thanks for everyone!
