portable music recording devices

What is the problem about using minidisc recorders on the Mac (G4 Sawtooth in this case)? I notice there are no Mac specifications on Sony minidisc packages. I've researched this a bit and have found various viewpoints, ranging from: yes, a Sony minidisc recorder can be connected to a Mac, with an interface... to: no it can't be done... And the main drawback is that, while (if) it can be done, whatever is recorded can only be uploaded into the computer real-time (ie., 2 hours of music will take 2 hours to upload).

My idea is to record small venue concerts (not big name musicians), with permission, download to my computer and then burn a CD.

My interest is in the Sony MZ-N10, using VA-ID interface... or should I just get one of those pocket studio things to simplify?.

Any Mac music people here with experience in this area?
