Finiancial Benefits of Waiting... Don't Buy a New PB

Have you ever thought about the financial benefit of not buying a new Powerbook is?

Say you plan on buying one of those new systems on Aug 18/19. Say you push for the top of the line powerbook. A SUPERFAST 17 incher! You'll easily spend $3,500 after shipping, tax, and not to mention any "upgrades" you dare to add.

My prediction is you'd love to have a G5 powerbook, but for the sake of having a new system you buy one now. Should you wait?

NO! Of course not... especially if you "NEED" a new computer and you've been waiting for years to upgrade.

YES! Definitely wait... if you have a system that's working for now. Something you don't mind because the G5 Powerbook is right around the corner. (I know it probably won't be fore another year, but do you remember what you were doing last year at this exact moment? That's right it was only 1 year ago. Time goes by fast!)

Anyways. Look at this typical investment in the Vanguard 500 Index Fund. It tracks the S&P 500. You'll invest the same $3500 in this fund. If you assume "the average yeild" from the fund 10.48%, then next year you'll have $3,860.

$3,860.00

Compare that to your $3,500.00 PowerBook that you'd resell in one year for AT MOST $2,500.

That's a realized gain of $1,360 in the next year!

Just dream of the possibilities for the system you could buy with the new cash beyond what you'd be spending right now!

Pathetic. Any real Mac user knows that the only stocks worth investing in are Nigerian.

BTW, isn't spamming/advertising like this against the board rules? :|

Dr Holistic, you have made my list of people to berate. Unfortunately, your logic was so convoluted that I can't find anything intelligible to make fun of. Mods, please kill this thread and ban the good doctor from the forum for spamming us.

It's so obvious this guy is a PC dude.

he looks at computer purchases as an expense, where I look at a PowerBook and think about the money I'll be making with it.

Because I'll be using my PowerBook (AlBook ) to make changes onsite with clients, I'm actually losing money right now due to the inefficiency of having to go back to the office, make changes, and then create PDF's or drive back to the client...

hey, I'm LOSING money by not having a 15" AlBook!

Throw that into your investment portfolio....

Too bad I don't really want a G6, otherwise my net realizable gain would be $7,895. I'll just have to hope the G5 PB is delayed as long as anually possible!

Come on, guys, you know you really want the one IBM's going to make ten years from now. Let's all move to California and get some high-yield tex-deferred municipal bond action and live like Mac-less kings. In 10 years, anyway.
