Laser Speakers

Haha sorry about the thread name, but I don't remember what they are called. I read about them the other week, they are speakers that are concentrated and can be aimed like a laser so that you can have somone listen a hundred feet away with nobody else hearing. Does anyone have a link on this information or know what company makes them?

Haha even though I am pretty damn sure they aren't for sale I want one!

I'd mostly just like to learn more about them.

I've heard of these a few times in the past. The only ones I can recall details about used 2 speakers at ultrasonic freqs and when they 2 waves intersected, they would combine to form audible sound.

TechTV did a piece on some, (showed dancers dancing on a quiet dancefloor, but a dude was aiming a speaker at them and they could hear the music) it may have been a rerun of the old Beyond 2000 show though.

I've never heard of any commercial availability, and none claimed good sound quality.

They're directional speakers. TechLive did do a piece on them a long time ago, but I think they reran it about a month ago.

It's my understanding that the US Navy will be using their new X-Serves to coordinate management of combat-trained sharks equipped with these "laser" speakers.
