Ok I am very new to Mac's. I had a folder that contained a bunch of contacts. I was playing around and tried to drag them all to the trash. Unfortunately I dropped them into my dock and missed the trash. Now I have 222 contacts in the dock and I am looking for a quick way to delete them? If I have to delete each one I am going to scream. Any suggestions?

That was supposed to be the "place of interest" symbol for the command key.

If you didn't want to take the long way, you could have deleted com.apple.dock.plist in your preferences folder.

When I did this with 60 odd pictures I edited the plist file and removed the extra stuff from the dock. That way I didn't loose my existing doc stuff.

And a tip for another time you want to delete many items (or just one):

    Cmd-Delete

Or put the 'send to trash' button in your Finder toolbar.

You have to customize your toolbar, through the "view" menu in the Finder. Add the delete button and you're set.

When I go to my View menu in the Finder, the Customize Toolbar is greyed out. All I have available is Clean Up , Arrange, and Show View Options

Make sure you have a finder window active not the desktop.

It doesn't work for dock icons, but it's easy:

    1. Open Finder window (File menu -> New Finder Window)

    2. Choose View Menu -> Customize toolbar...

    3. Drag 'Delete' to the toolbar

    4. Click 'Done'.

    5. Close window (command+W)

Alternate route: Download 'Trash X' (check VersionTracker) and drag that to the toolbar.

Ahh. That did the trick, but now I can't find the Trash to put in the toolbar.
