uncap dsl?

was messing around w/ my dsl modem today (it allows telnet login for config) and i found this screen:

the part that caught my attention was the upstream/downstream section. does anyone know if its possible to edit those? im quite happy with my downstream, but 16K up is not enough for me.



it does have a command mode where it looks like u can edit some settings, but i dont know how to use it. the modem i have is a zyxel, i tried their website, but was unable to dl any user guides from them, their ftp server was being very unresponsive.



any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

    Nope, that's a standard Sprint Dsl modem screen. I think it's number 24 for system maintenance and then 1 for status. What you're seeing is the up and downstream that is given to you straight from your ISP. The only place it can be changed is at the ISP's end. The modem itself does not manage the signal. Just try calling them and asking them to turn up or turn down the signal, they'll tell you it'll be a few days, because they have to reprogram (there's a more technical term for this) the line. Sorry about the bad news, it would be cool if you could open it up yourself. On the other hand, that modem can do other cool things like basic firewall and port forwarding under option 15.

    actually, my service is through earthlink, and sadly, 128up/1536down is what im paying for. pisses me off tho, before i moved i used to have a much higher upload speed, i would get around 45k/sec up sometimes, now i hover around 15, no more remote streaming my mp3s

    Actually there are ways to edit those settings, but I am not sure how to do it, all I know is, it can be done, and if so you will be blacklisted, and possibly sued.
