All iMacs, eMacs EOL?

If you go to the Apple Store, you cannot buy an iMac or eMac without waiting at least 3-5 days for it to ship (meaning the computers are out of stock). Flat Panel iMacs are quoting 5-7 days or 2-3 weeks for delivery!

So here's how it looks now:

All eMacs: 3-5 days

All CRT iMacs: 3-5 days

Low end FP iMac: 2-3 weeks

FP iMacs: 5-7 days

Perhaps an update is due sooner than I thought.

If they still are shipping how are they EOL-ed? Doesn't EOL mean no more period? Discontinued? Not sure how that works. Is 3-5 days really that bad? Doesn't sound that bad. Anyways, it's been specualted that the iMacs get updated after the 31st release of iLife. So yea, I guess an update is coming

3-5 Days seems about normal for the Apple Store, but if they really are EOLed, about bloody time!

Well the machines were shipping within 1-3 days and now the Flat Panel iMacs shipping within 5-7 days (or 2-3 weeks) is pretty interesting.

Here in the UK there are bottom end FP iMacs (700Mhz G4, CDRW) for sale at the Apple refurb store and have been for a few weeks (only on wednesday) I check this page every week like clockwork in case of bargins (and there often are - 700Mhz iBook for £650!!) and they NEVER have had currently available models for sale UNTIL now. NEVER! So I think its a sign (also cos my work tried to buy some eMacs from a large UK distributor and were told they had none.....) Hmmmm

This is great. I can't wait to order an iMac using a 1.2GHz 970. Only 19watts power usage, no fan to interupt the sweet silence of the moment.

    Now that would be sandbagging.

Opps, I posted this next year. Would the moderators kindly save this post for January of 2004, I'm going back to sleep now.

Actually, at the earliest. Haven't you noticed that Apple seems to introduce hardware on Tuesdays?

Or to put it another way, "If It's Tuesday, It Must Be Hardware"

There is something going to happen soon (don't ask what): all the shops I usually buy my stuff from show the same pattern:

    - 15" SuperDrive iMac still available

    - other models (incl. 17") are either no longer listed (no proce quote, no trace that they ever existed) or they have a 25 days shipping quote!

    Funny, funny!

    I want a blazing fast iMac! <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" />

Maybe not: The Apple Store for education has a promo going for eMacs/iMacs:

    Laser-sharp savings.

From January 28, 2003, through April 30 2003, or while supplies last, buy a Macintosh and qualifying HP LaserJet printer and save up to $100 instantly.

I would love to see a super speedy iMac, as well, but I fear that the ceiling is pretty low now because the lowest "power" mac is now a single 1GHz. Shame they didn't keep the bottom end a DP.

I don't think that's a natural law though,e.g. an update might coincidide with the "official" release of the iLife suite on Jan 31.

Still, next tuesday would just fine for me too though

edit: Err, so what Bodhi said

With all due respect, the iMac isn't going to be EOL'ed any time soon.

Yeah sales are a bit weak, but that's because they haven't upgraded it. Apple's not going to spend all that development money on engineering the iMac only to let it die without a fight.

i think you misunderstand the term "EOL." it isn't nearly as fatal (pun intended) as you might think. it just means that third parties cannot restock the items from the manufacturer, usually if there is an imminent upgrade.
