Airport (Graphite) LED Error Codes

Hi!

My faithful graphite Airport Base Station seems to be unwell. On start up. all I get are a full set of flashing amber followed by a steady red left LED. This sequence then repeats.

I have tried a quick reset and the 30 seconds reset followed by a firmware upload as detailed here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106858

The upload was successful but the Airport would not reset to a usable state.

I presume part of the hardware has failed. If it's just the modem or Orinoco card then I can replace those easily enough. Ethernet must be fine as I loaded the fresh firmware over it!

Thanks in advance!

Alex

The most likely scenario is that the capacitors failed. Here are a couple of links outlining the problem, and various solutions:

Replacing the capacitors is pretty simple if that's the problem, but be aware if you're not already outside of the warranty (which is likely given that it's an older graphite model), cracking open your Airport base station would void it.

Thanks, those were my exact symptoms. The damn caps have died
