I thought it was just the name for a beowulf cluster of macs. I could be wrong though.
There have been persistant rumors of some new OS X based technology along these lines being introduced for simple plug and play clusters. Is that what you mean?
Appleseed is Apple's software seeding program. If you can get into the program, Apple sends you developmental versions of software to test on your Mac for them.

You can sign up and try to get in. Its not a secret.
I applied 2 years ago and was accepted last year. I didn't start getting software till this summer though. So I guess it takes awhile.
I applied for the program after reading this thread... was finally accepted yesterday. Now I am just waiting to be seeded something. Not holding my breath, though. Sounds like it could take awhile. [praying for a panther seed] Anyone else playing?
(someone want to move this thread to software, where it belongs?)

Good luck. Just because you get accepted doesn't mean you'll get software though. At most you'll probably get 10.3.1 - 10.3.6 updates to test.
So do you have to be a developer? the most complex thing I ever made was Mastermind in Progamming 1. But I'm interested in Apple software and if it's like being a beta tester I'd like to give them quality feedback. And I would not break an NDA.
It's not a Beowulf cluster, just a cluster. It's also Apple's seed program. I suspect the original poster was referring to UCLAs cluster solution due to the presence of the word 'Project'.

What's the difference between this program and ADC
(Apple Developer Connection)?
There is no relation between the two programs. You may participate in both. However, if you are developing a product of your own, it is in your best interest to work with ADC. This program is designed for customers, not developers.
There is also a program started I think by UCal called Appleseed, It is cluster of macs used linked to form a virtual super computer, it uses a program calle POOCH, I forget what the acronym stands for, but it was originally put together to do medical modeling, I'll put up a link in a bit.

Oh and yes the same name also applies to a beowulf (peculiar name, don't see how midcentury literature applies!) cluster of Macs at some university.
Geez, guys. Google search for 'Project Appleseed' and the first hit is this:

It's all good though...

No, you don't have to be a developer (hence it's name "Apple Software Customer Seeding"). Just go to http://appleseed.apple.com/ and read into it. See also the FAQ ( http://appleseed.apple.com/cgi-bin/W...tal.woa/wa/faq ):

I've spoken to Dean quite regularly in the past.. Even got him involved in some online discussions. Great guy offering great technology.
