networking os x and win xp

i put this on another forum...maybe it is better here...anybody know how to fix error 36 in os x 10.6?

    If you are getting that when you try and access your xp box with your mac, i think you need to open a port in your xp firewall or disable it altogether.

    Is it -36?



    Most likely it's a problem with your Mac's samba extension. Apple did an extremely poor job there. All you can do:



    - Never turn off the Windows box before you haven't ejected the network share on the mac.



    - Always unload the kext after you have ejected the disk (open terminal, type "sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/smbfs.kext/"



    If you get the error anyway... restart your computer.
