Hey i just saw this over on another apple forum... but since Im not signed up with them so... here it is.

When I first saw the G5 case in hirez, i immediatly thougt about how cool it would be to put a light source into the case.

It should be very weak and slightly shine out of the many little holes on the front of the case.

So, any electronically minded people to suggest how to power supply a little LED

inside the G5 case?

Anyway I really like this idea and would love to do it to my G5. (once I get it

A flourescent tube is probably easier and will give out much more light. You can get tubes from PC component shops quite cheaply (~£10 here in the UK), and they're powered from a hard drive connector. A bit low on technical challenge.

Another G5 mod that could look cool would be LEDs on the fans that light only when the fans are spinning. As CPU and hard drive activity increases, the G5 not only becomes louder but brighter as well.

They are actually called "Cold Cathode Tubes". I got mine a month ago now I'm just waiting for my dual G5. Something like this.

Not sure if I want to "tackify" my G5.

Sounds like something a PC user would do though.

Considering that the G5 is about 20" high, you could probably fit a standard sized tube in there.

I think the only thing I'd want to mod is a light behind the drive doot, so when I eject a CD, the drive is glowing from behind. Maybe that would interfere with CD reading, though.
