G5 Benchmarks w/ IBM compiler someone?

hi there

i would really like to see how the SPEC suite and XBench (though it seems to be a quite crappy benchmarking solution with such

high variancies in results) perform with the brand new IBM compiler public beta for OS X...

is there someone with a little experience and access to a G5 who could just run some freshly compiled SPEC tests? you can find the compiler at

http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp...ACT=&S_CMP=&s=

or if that doesn't work just search IBM's software site at

http://www.software.ibm.com/

for "mac"

i'm dying to see the results, and thanks a lot in advance!

There have been some comparitive tests done on GCC and the IBM compiler. You can check it out here

either i'm blind or there are no tests performed... also it is not as interesting to see generic efficiency enhancement tests, but rather benchmarks for which the compiler has been optimized, as it's the case with SPEC and the intel compiler... in reality noone uses the intel compiler for scientific calculations because it's code is too error prone, it is however heavily optimized for certain test suites. so hitting higher numbers there would definetly shut the mouths of all those "the dell website state 1500 instead of 880 for the dual-xeon"ers.

in reality the real performance gains are of course more interesting, but currently the contest between the new chips is not fought out on the field of real world applications...

Not just anyone can go and grab the SPEC suite off an FTP server and build it. It costs $$$, and there are hoops to jump through.

If anyone releases SPEC scores, it'll probably be IBM. They're probably not going to release scores benched on a beta compiler no matter how fast it is.

So if you want your meaningless pissing-contest scores, you'll have to wait until some large corporation pays up for the privilege of generating them on a finished compiler.

This thread has some benches. Looks promising.

Now...what's the price gonna be on this Compiler. I want it
