Macworld Expo to take place in Boston next year

August 29 - 12:15 EDT__ IDG World Expo today confirmed that the East Coast Macworld Conference & Expo will take place at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) July 12-15, 2004. "After research and discussions with key stakeholders, including vendors, consultants and attendees, it is clear that Macworld Conference & Expo in Boston will provide great value to the Mac community," said David Korse, president of IDG World Expo. "While there was some uncertainty about the event coming to Boston after the successful launch of Macworld CreativePro in New York this summer, we have decided to continue the Macworld tradition on the East Coast as originally planned."

This isn't going to be Macworld Creative Pro Expo or any thing like that, they are billing it as the East Coast Macworld show.

Apple said previously that they would not attend the East Coast show if it moved to Boston, but IDG has been in talks with Apple and using the Macworld name for the show might mean that they are more confident that Apple will go to the show.

Opening a brand new convention center should make Macworld in Boston that much better. Now we have to see what Apple's response is.

    Apple's Reponse (From MacCentral.com):

"When IDG initially announced its plans to move summer Macworld to Boston in 2004, we were very clear that we didn't think it was a good move," Apple said in their statement. "Our position stands and Apple will not be participating in Macworld Boston. We are 100 percent committed to Macworld San Francisco in January every year."

Well this is going to be interesting. We'll see if Apple decides to back away from this stance if IDG starts putting pressure on them about MWSF.

The strange thing about this is that Apple was all for this move until it was announced last year. Oh well, Apple still has time to come around.
