AirPort Extreme print serving

So how does the AirPort extreme print server work? Is it IP address based? Does it actually work well? I have an old D-Link router with a parallel port print server that works okay, but slowly if you need to print anything and I was thinking I could save a couple of hundred bucks by buying the AirPort Extreme base station versus a cheaper G router...

    The biggest draw back to the xtreme printer is only Mac with 10.2.3 can use the usb printer. We have several older laptops that have 9.2 and they can not use the printer. We email what ever needs to be printed to a machine that has a printer or to a laptop that is running 10.2.6. If you do get the xtreme also get one of the external antennas. The increase is range is worth it.
