I keep hearing all this talk of Mac OS 9.6. Couple of my teachers say that they have just upgraded there computers to 9.6. I went to PNY.com for a compactflash reader and it says it supports Mac OS 8.6-9.6? What's up with the 9.6? Is this real? i'm very confussed.

Edit:

Here's an example. Look at OS compatibility:

I haven't seen anything on the adc software list except for a bugfix.

No such thing as OS 9.6. Here's all the versions of the Mac OS from 8.5 to the latest version of 9 (9.2.2):

    8.5

    8.5.1

    8.6

    9.0 (paid upgrade)

    9.0.1

    9.0.2

    9.0.3

    9.0.4

    9.1

    9.2

    9.2.1

    9.2.2

All updates I listed were free except the 8.6 to 9.0 upgrade. You can not download the 9.0.1, 9.0.2, 9.0.3, or 9.2 updater from Apple's website. Only the 9.0.4, 9.1, 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 are available.

EDIT: I looked at the page and apparently 10.13 is listed as well... I don't know if they mean 10.1.3, or if they mean ten major updates after Panther... probably just a typo or something, by someone who doesn't know enough about Apple's various OS releases to notice.

    This is funny shit!

    9.6... sounds like 10.2.6!

Just a mix up I guess... but funny...

Or maybe another webmaster just got "steved" for the "pre-release" of 9.6...

    FYI,

When the first Macs that only boot in OS X came out, the version of 9.2.2 that was included had a slight change in there to support the hard drives of PowerMac G4s, but Apple never officially noted it as such.

I believe this was documented at www.macintouch.com at the time.
