Sorry if this has been covered already - but do we know yet as to whether the new G5 actually has a matching keyboard and mouse? And if not, when will they arrive - after all there are still no new displays.

No, they're shipping with the same keyboard and mouse as the eMac.

Confirmed. Same crap KB and mouse. Using a logitech setup with my 1.6 G5.

Hoping a wireless job gets announced soon.

Rumor has it Ives was out sick when Apple had their design meeting for the current input devices.

    That would explain it.

You know, I really dont understand why everyone is always saying that the KB/mouse and the G5 dont "match" as if your saying "they dont go together".

Folks... in order for two objects to be ascetically agreeable together, they need to complement each other in some way. This can be two colors that work together, or two shapes or forms that complement each other in some way. It can be a subtle difference in color or form, or extreme/complete opposites. It does NOT necessarily, (Im not saying that it wont work) have to MATCH *two colors or forms that are exactly the same*. Of course Im not saying that a matching Alu KB and G5 wouldn't work, Im just saying that they dont HAVE to mach colors exatly in order for them to work together.

The white KB next to the metal G5 softens the edge and harshness of the metal and makes it look more refined and elegant. And in my opinion, things that mach, if not done properly, can look tacky and/or uninteresting. Not always of course, just if its not done right.

White + Metal is like Hand + Glove. They just work. Take a look at the iPod or the iMac if your in doubt.

    Ahh.

    Must disagree with you there.

The white KB/mouse looks like utter crapola next to the sleek and beautiful G5.

If the wireless stuff comes true, I hope Apple makes amends.

If its white again, I won't bother.

Another thread on this!? Get over it. The eMac keyboard is very nice, and does the job well. And the metal and "aqua" do complement each other well, just like the metal and aqua in OS X.

besides ... there are wireless ones on the way

Well, I think it does matter. If the metal machines are meant to be pro and white ones consumer, it seems to make little sense for the Power Macs to sort of look like both.

Besides, I've finally seen a 12" Powerbook and love the metal keyboard. I'd give anything to have a full size keyboard with metal keys. And what about a really heavy, metal mouse with an Apple engraved in it? 'NICE'

Please excuse my overall Mac ignorance: Does the browser support a mouse with forward and back buttons on it? I like the MS Intellimouse optical--much easier than moving the mouse away from main activity all the time to click on the back and (occasionally) forward arrows.

I don't think so. Use your keyboard, it's just as easy.

The only thing that makes the keyboard/mouse issue worse is that there's no way on this green earth I'm using the one button Apple mouse. I'll stick with my grey/black Logitech MX300. However, that makes the white keyboard stick out like Greenbay Packer fans.

I may just grab another (had to replace mine) black keyboard off eBay.

    Forget matching-

The eMac keyboard that is shipping with this gear is a piece of crap. It is uncomfortable, cheap, and ugly. Not only that, the fact that Pro level machines continue to ship with a one button mouse is ridiculous. I understand the one button fun of a MAc for the unintiated, but for daily users, the one button mouse is pretty impractical compared to the amount of time you save with a 2-buttoner. Finally there is a stark difference between Pro and consumer level machines, so where the hell are the input devices to go with it?

I just bought the "Apple Keyboard" and I don't think its a piece of crap. It has very good feed back and a good quality feel to it. I actually like it better than the "Pro" keyboard". I do think that apple needs to come out with a new mouse though...

The number of mouse buttons is clearly a religious issue for Apple (well, maybe just for Steve, but that means the same thing.) I don't really have *too* big a problem with making the 1-button mouse the default, but the absence of a BTO option for multi-button mouse is ridiculous. Then again, they'd probably charge plenty extra, so it'd still be cheaper to just get your own, and put the Pro Mouse (ha!) on eBay or in the circular file.

I will be pleasantly surprised when Apple finally adds another button or two to their mouse. Once I regain consciousness.

if you can buy a G5 I'm sure you can buy yourself a wireless logitech keyboard mouse duo, so stop complaining and just get that instead...

Yes it does. Safari supports these features with my mouse.
