Ok I just picked up a 350mhz slot-loading imac free from a friend who said that it comes up with an error every time it tries to boot...

I tested it out an it gets to the MAC OS 9.1 screen then gives an error #102 and asks me to restart it.

What is an error # 102???

I zapped the PRAM and tried to boot holding shift. But the same error comes up.

Any help would be great... I really want this free iMac to work.

(Also I don't have the system cds but my friend told me when he tried to boot off one it gave the same error)

Thanks

    From Apple's Support pages:

Error #102 System is too old for this ROM

Sounds like the version of the ROM file on the iMac is a newer version than is compatible. To fix it, you will probably have to boot from another drive (e.g transfer this drive to a tower, boot from the tower's drive) and replace the ROM file with a compatible version. See this article to determine the correct ROM version.

Note: you will need the system discs in order to get the ROM file.

    Hope this helps,

    Darren
