Im trying to run photoshop 7 on a 3 year old slot loading 350Mhz iMac (the blue one).

Is there anyway to improve preformance?

Im running Mac OS X 10.1.5

Its so bad! it takes 5-10 min just to complete a command like using the paint brush to paint the background at 2000 point brush size.

Well if all else fails...

This will be a great excuse to upgrade to the PowerMac G5 Dual 2Ghz!

Photoshop 2.2 times faster!

On a side note...

I heard that the 1.6 Ghz G5 is just as fast as a 2.2Ghz-2.8Ghz PC is that true?

And does anyone know what the 1.8Ghz is equal to on the PC side?

...welcome to my hell! That's why I use OS9. About a 2000px brush - why so big?

I've got news for you. If you're really using a 2000 pixel brush, it's going to slow a lot of machines down.

I was just using it(2000 pixel brush) to color a back ground.

but it takes about 5 min to do ANYTHING load a pic.... 6-7 min, save a pic 5-10 min.... ect ect...

I guess it would be good to get some more ram! I only have 192MB right now.

and to torifile, Why would i wan't 10.2 when 10.3 is so close to coming out!

    Ouch.

Yeah, that's barely enough to run Mac OS X and some small apps, let alone a heavy-hitter like Photoshop. Get some more RAM ASAP!

I'm choking on 256MB here myself, and I don't do anything close to waving 2000 pixel brushes on huge PS images. Right now I'm running Mail, iChat, Safari, iTunes and Text Edit, and my RAM has been eaten up faster than Ben Affleck's lap dancer.

    Buy RAM dude. Like yesterday.

FYI, "buy RAM" means "buy at least 512MB of RAM".

Your computer - and Photoshop - will thank you.

How big are these files you're working with?

As others have said, you defintely need more ram. But I've got a dual 1.42 MDD with 1 gb of ram and it takes a little while for a 2000 pixel brush to do it's "thing".

What are you doing with a 2000px brush? I use Photoshop on a 400 Mhz Power Mac G4 w/ 256MB of RAM wih no problems. My images max out at about 30 MB. How big are your images?

Select the layer or lasso a selection.

    Set a foreground color.

    Press option-delete.

    Voila! Color filled!
