CD needed to run game = PITA.

I am exclusively a laptop user, and currently I have 3 or 4 games I play regularly (like Starcraft, Neverwinter Nights and CivIII) which require the game CD to be in the drive in order to work.

This sucks...in order not to travel with a sheaf of CDs and use my PAID IN FULL for games, I need to rip the CDs into disk images, each of which eats up 600-700 megs of HD space.

No app makes you do this--only games. Who do they think they are kidding? Does this *really* stop or even slow piracy? People warez the install disk to get the app, then they have the disk--making them burn it onto a CD doesn't slow them down any.

I'm just griping...does anyone have an answer? Can we petition companies to stop doing this, or to at least release a CD-free hack after their games are a year or two old?

I feel like it's 1983 and I am being asked to do copy protection with floppies. Bah.
