IBook Freeze

I have an iBook 700mhz with 256 ram. I've had it for about a year and lately my screensaver has been freezing up. It used to do this occasionally with a different screensaver so I dont think its that. It will ususally freeze when I'm taking the screensaver off (touching a key, moving the mouse, etc.). If I close the lid and let my computer sleep when I open the computer it will be fine. Anyone have any idea's what could be causing this?

Can you verify you are running OS X 10.2.6?

Since the screen saver is an application, and the way it is invoked, the permissions on it may be wrong, although the closing of the lid is more related to the Energy Saver...

First thing to try, Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.

Second, zap the PRAM by holding down option-apple-P-R when the computer starts up. You'll know it worked by the startup chime chiming again.
