Safari downloads

I can't get Safari to download anything anymore. Everything is redirected to what looks like it has to do with Speed Download(which I don't have) and then back to the previous page. I searched my drive for anything that has to do with SD, but nothing comes up.

Try trashing some prefs. Just be careful not to delete Safari's bookmarks if you want to keep those.

If you have .Mac you could back up your bookmarks then reset Safari then sync to regain your bookmarks.

I've never seen this kind of problem.

By download I assume you mean you click on a link that should initiate a download but it doesn't.

Can you manually call up the Downloads window?

Try pointing to a simple link (to an image or small .html file), control click on it and select Download Link to Disk. What happens?

Did you try to reset the download folder in preferences?

I can call up the downloads window, and I can ctrl-click on a link and select "Download Link to Disk" and I use the desktop as my download folder.

When I do click on a .dmg or something file, it just goes to "file:///private/temp/.../temporary%20files/_SD_Helper_Plugin_.something" and then back to the previous page. I'm assuming that the SD stands for Speed Download.

Try these suggestions in this order. If the first doesn't work, try the next.

    1. Reset Safari ... Menu>Reset. That won't delete your Bookmarks, only your cache, prefs and little icon database, all of which will be recreated normally.

    2. Close the Safari.app and move the the folder: ~/Library/Safari to your desktop and redownload Safari from http://www.apple.com/safari/ . Replace your book mark file (if you wanted to save those) from the old Safari folder on your desktop into the new Safari folder. This will remove a number of things connected to Safari.

    3. Close the Safari.app. Check all Application Enhancers and Application Support folders (do a find) and remove anything having to do with Safari in them, but keep them on your desktop in case there is something in there you might miss later. Relaunch Safari and see if you can download normally.

    Good luck
