ThinkSecret has released an article about a new hardware specific version of Panther called Tachyon.

http://www.thinksecret.com/news/tachyon.html

What wild speculation could we come up with for a new device that runs Panther. As he states in the article the iMacs and G5's are out, the Powerbooks should be out before Panther. Does this spark a new OSx on intel debate... god I hope not. What new device could it be.

The above linked thread predicts Intel support. As long as this thread ponders which future hardware platform Tachyon is designed to support, it's topical here and different (however subtly) from the thread in OS X.

    Carry on.

    Old news...it's the G5:

    G5 benchmarking story on Extremetech.com

"In the setup notes for the G5 testbed, Lionbridge "installed the Tachyon development environment version 6K452. This provides the appropriate development tools for generating the SPEC binaries and installs Apple's version of the GCC compiler (version 3.3 build 1379) on the test system." The term "Apple's version" is left unspecified, unfortunately."

Yeah i had a thread about a G5 based thin-client. I don't know how well it fits into Apple's plans at the moment but things seem to be moving in that direction anyway. At least Sun/Oracle hopes so.

Well, maybe Tachyon has come back from the future to serve as the codename for another project.

    Tricky things, tachyons.

No, no... Mr. Fusion is what powers the *P*8.

The G8 runs on a small amount of sunshine.
