I just got this email from the Apple Store:

It sells regularly for $39.95, and it?s yours at no extra cost when you purchase a 10GB iPod for Mac ($399) online from the Apple Store by March 14, 2003. Order yours today.

Yeah, looks as if they are trying to clear inventory. Not that great an incentive though.

I just got an e-mail giving me $100 off a fuji 3800 camera. Not a bad deal if you ask me. The deal ends on the same date, March 14th.

Curious. I have some wholegrain mustard that must also be eaten by March 14.

Hmmm...after looking at the numbers (3.14) this is starting to make some sense.

    3: versions of the iPod. That's a no-brainer.

14: 1+4=5. Obviously, this will be the last day of the 5gig iPod's life, to be replaced by a larger model on the 15th.

3.14: 3+1+4=8. Now, this might not look like much at first glance, but turn that little baby 90 degrees and...that's right, the infinity symbol. As in Infinite Loop.

Those are the easy ones. I could get into all sorts of 3.14=truncated Pi and how this might affect the circular scroll wheel, etc....but I've got to get to work.

I think you might be on to something here Fran.

I'm going to throw another wrench in the works.

3/14 is a Friday. Apple rarely releases new products on a Friday but we could be surprised. 3/15 is the Ides of March. Beware the Ides of March. 3/16 is my birthday and Apple never releases anything good on my birthday (The original Pre-Aqua Mac OS X Server is the only thing).

3/17 is St. Patrick's Day so people won't be paying attention to Apple (I should hope).

So that looks like 3/18 as a launch date unless Apple puts out the iPods a week earlier 3/10, 3/11 and then kills their special offer.

That would make sense. That is what Applrumors.com has to say on the issue. They also have an article on the possibilities of an Apple tablet to be released in MW Sanfransisco. That brings up another question. Will an Apple tablet be in the iPod family, replace the iPod family, or the iPod family evolve into PDA's? Look at what has been happening with the iPod. First you could store contacts on it. Then came the calender extra. And now what will happen next?

before some religious fanatic starts waving the 3:16 sign in here, let me propose a more mathematical possibility

the circle will be complete under what condition?

3.14... sing along if you know the words... 15926...

it's Pi... friend to geometers everywhere

the system controller uses an Apple Pi Bus, IIRC

once there was a mac graphics manufacturer named radius

hmmmm... return of the pivoting monitor arm?

    the imac base is hemispherical,

my bet is more round than square,

ivey seems to hate sharp edges... even the MDD is curvy

edited to clarify rambling stream of pseudo-consciousness

Ok, I read this over 3 times, and I still cannot make a single bit of sense out of it. What are you trying to say??? <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

so why are they trying to clear out the 10 giggers when this is the only one that will be staying the same?

It is soooo strange how you Americans read and write dates the wrong way round... It's either 14.3. or 2003-03-14.

About why it's only the 10G version: Maybe they already _have_ sold most of the others (or have just overproduced the 10G version), or the update will _not_ be linear. Maybe there won't be a 10G version as we know it now...

Yeah. When I was a little kid, I was convinced that the traditional (or American) way of writing dates was completely flawed.. since in my mind, they should have gone in ascending order in respect to chronological significance... that is, days preceding months, months preceding years. It does make a bit more sense.

You don't understand the American convention obviously.

The most logical system is YYYY/MM/DD, correct?

The American convention of MM/DD/YYYY is just YYYY/MM/DD with everything shifted one space because most of us follow a yearly cycle. Knowing the year really isn't too important to our schedule.

Now take the convention of DD/MM/YYYY. If you were to use this format for archival purposes it would be exactly the opposite of what you'd want. You'd get a list of everything that happened on various days of various months and years listed out of chronological order.

Americans just write the day as people say it. If in Europe, people say 21 February instead of February 21, that's fine but we just write the day the same way we say it.

Here in the US, if we're asked the date, we always say the month first, then the day.

It just dawned on me... I would *have* to have a 20 gig iPod to even FIT all my mp3s... I just easted past 12.2 gigs last night (not including my 12 CDs of archived mp3s...

Hey Apple? Please mail me a 50 gb iPod. Thanks you!
