Linksys WPC55AG wireless card on Titanium PB G4? javascript:smilie(':???:')

in Genius Bar edited January 2014
Hello everyone! I have a bit of a problem here that I have had NO LUCK finding an answer to. I currently own a Titanium PowerBook G4/667 with the built-in Airport. The problem is, I wish to use this new Linksys WPC55AG 802.11a/b/g wireless card on it instead of the slow 802.11b only Airport card. How do I go about disabling the internal Airport and using the Linksys? I have read that it isn't even possible with a/b/g cards, and IS possible with b/g cards. I sure hope this isn't the case, or I am out $80... Any help is appreciated, thanks! -JB

Those hacks won't help; they are for Broadcom cards but JB has an Atheros card.

OK, so I went on over to Best Buy, and was about to purchase a Linksys 802.11g/b PC Card, when the Mac specialist came up and asked if I needed help. I told him my situation, and he told me about how he had been hearing/reading about people with TiBooks frying their machines by trying to use 3rd party 802.11g/b PC Cards!!! But I told him I was willing to risk it, and he said to go with D-Link products. He said they were the most compatible and Mac friendly. So, I listened (I probably shouldn't have), and bought a D-Link wireless router and g/b PC card. Now, I find out it isn't based on Broadcom, but Intersil!!! Now, PLEASE tell me this will work and the guy actually knew what he was talking about!!! Or do I have to go back 30 mins. away to return the stupid thing and get the Linksys? Thanks again -JB

    Intersil cards will not work.

People at Best Buy don't know anything.

You can't fry your PowerBook with an unsupported CardBus card.

If you don't know what you're doing, don't buy something unless you see a Mac logo on the box.
