What version were you using before (if any)? Is the interface the only major difference? I'm a happy Toast user and have been for many years. What incentive do I have to upgrade?

Well... you have the option of installing a Contextual Menu item that makes it really easy to burn CDs or DVDs. Also as you saw in the screenshot it gives the estimated space used on the disc (you can click a button to change the estimated space from CD to DVD and vice versa) among other things. It's a great update. Check http://www.roxio.com for more details. I haven't had a chance to harness all its power yet. But already I can see that it's come a long way from its previous versions.

BTW: I had been using Toast Titanium 5.2 and I was happy... but then I heard about vers. 6's new features so I decided to upgrade.

Toast 6 sucks. There is NOTHING new except VCD and SCVD that actually work. I tried burning a DVD and it said Error -50, it couldn't "convert" it. WTF? Toast 5 never had to dick around with "converting". If users are smart enough to produce a working VIDEO_TS folder why does Toast 6 have to "convert" it. Not worth upgrading, not even if you pirated it. Stick with 5.

Also it still doesn't support "overburning" or "cd paranoia" cd ripping. Lame. FireStarter FX has features this doesn't and hey... it's FREE.

Toast 6 is great so far. Havent used the extras yet... The CD label app is great.

Havent used the contextual menu yet... am still 'old school'.

Been burning DVD Movies and Data DVD backups without a hitch on the old DVD 103 (1x speed babyyyy... ooooh yeah.... *sigh*)

The interface is much improved over 5. Esp for newbies or people who are not very computer litterate.

4.5/5 for me. Overburn would make it 5

I beg to differ. I'm downloading a series of VCDs from Usenet these days, and I can burn them fine with Toast 5, but Toast 6 won't even look at them.

does anyone know how if I can burn data CDs using ONLY DOS or PC format?? I need that extra two megs that the HFS format is adding . . .

(or overburning would maybe help me too)

If Toast 6 still won't do this, what about another disk burning utility?

All I'm saying is they better figure out a way to get DVDs to burn without "converting" in some update because until then I can't use 6. I burn as much DVDs as I do CDs these days, with my 2x SuperDrive in my 12" powerbook.

I think ISO 9660 is as 'flat' as you're gonna get it...
