I have a couple questions about the new 12" Powerbook versus the old 12" Powerbook. What would be the difference in performance, and would it be that much noticeable? What do they get in encoding mp3/AAC? Thanks in advance!
I was thinking they'd GET L3 cache, instead all of them were neutered. Again, I feel better.
Besides I don't know about the new one's SuperDrive but the old one can be patched to do 2x DVDR 16x CDR and DVD-RW without any problems, I did it myself.
Not just performance, but how about heat. Since it is now running a 7447, I bet it runs cooler at 1GHz than the old 12" at 867 MHz? My 12" gets warm when plugged in and processor set to highest in energy saver. When on battery and running on reduced it gets a bit warm but useable.
It does have double the L2 cache, 133MHz clock speed advantage and a 33MHz bus speed advantage. Maybe not earth shattering but I'd be interested in a head-to-head match between the older 12' and the newer one.
The fact that the new one has 256Mb soldered on board and DVI out makes the new one really seem nice as well.
if you are stick to much of your work to encode music, I think there are not much absolute advantages to be a good excuse to purchase the new 12' , if your budget is not tie, then it would be another case to reconsider my advice, LOL!

does DVi port matters much?
I believe it is a rarely used hardware feature.
