    Quicktime Pro?

I need to be able to take existing music, say off a cd, and edit it the way I want it to sound using crossfades and such tools. The music will be used for Figure skating programs.

I'm far from being a good source for audio apps.

Id reccomend going to versiontracker.com and searching for 'mix' 'crossfade' 'audio' and the such. Also maybe 'dj' I'm sure you'll get a few apps

Give this a try. Its free and if it doesn't work you can pay for the LE version. Its supports wav, and ought to be able to do the edits you want.

Macromedia's OS9 SoundEdit 16 sounds like it does most of what you want.

Make sure you get the updates and plugins if you want .mp3 support.

    it's a bit old,

    System 7.1 or higher

but that may make it cheaper to get, and an upgrade may be pending

Director used to ship with SoundEdit as an all in one multimedia solution.

Director Studio bundles now ship with 3rd party audio editing software called DECK - buggy crap with no looping tools, and dismal/clueless tech support... ah for the good old days when MM bundles were all best-of-breed

unless you're looking for OSX native tools, which you didn't specify, or freebies...

I can't comment on the other suggestions here because I haven't used any of them. But I needed the same thing (but for dance teaching/stage productions). I ended up buying Toast with Jam that at that time had Bias Peak LE bundled with them. Not sure about now - just had a look at Roxio's website and it shows Peak LE VST with TJ. You can buy Peak LE on its own. But you can check them out for yourself here (sorry I have to be somewhere else). There may be a free trial version.

Some of the best money I've ever spent. Has allowed me to do all I've wanted and much, much more. Made me more creative blah, blah blah. But like I said I haven't tried anything else.
