The Plextor PX-708A delivers the fastest performance in dual formats: 8X DVD+R write, 4X DVD-R write, 4X DVD+RW rewrite, 2X DVD-RW rewrite, and 12X DVD-ROM read. In addition to recording, rewriting and reading DVD discs in dual formats, the PX-708A supports 40X CD-R write, 24X CD-RW rewrite and 40X CD-ROM read speeds. All in one drive. Create a 4.7 GB disc on DVD media in about 8 minutes.

NEC announced two new DVD-writers:

ND-2100A 8x DVD+R & 4x DVD+RW (299 ?) - available october

ND-2300A 8x DVD+R / 4x DVD-R & 4x DVD+/-RW (333 ?) - available before christmas



Verbatim 8x DVD+R-media will be available in october

The Plextor is out now...since the G5 isnt even shipping yet I wonder why Apple doesnt use this drive (at least maybe in the later shipping models). It is currently listed at Best Buy for $299.



Roxio's PhotoSuite 5 SE image editor and Easy CD and DVD Creator 6.1 Basic DVD Edition -- the latter featuring DVD Builder to edit, capture, and combine videos and photos on DVD, CD, VCD, or SVCD discs -- are bundled, along with a 30-day trial of Dantz Retrospect backup software.



Think Im gonna pick one of these new 8x dual format drives once they come down to $200 for my Quicksilver.
