MacOSX 10.2.8 has messed up my monitor

Apparently OSX 10.2.8 has caused my monitor to randomly stop receiving information and act as if the computer had shut down. I've checked the cords and stuff like that. The monitor works fine for a while when I force restart the computer. If anyone has any suggestions that would be appreciated.
