Upgrading to OSX and transferring files.

I finally bought OSX for my G4 450 and was going to upgrade when I unexpectantly got a G5. Now I have a couple of questions.

1. I need to transfer my photo and music collections from the old box to the new. Is firewire target disk mode the best way?

2. Do I, or should I upgrade the old box to OSX before I transfer the files?

3. Anything to watch out for upgrading from 9.1 to X? Is it relatively painless?

Thanks in advance,

t.fall

That or a ethernet cross over cable

No. Having your files at two places is a good thing before any OS upgrade

The upgrade as such was very painless. To learn X was harder, getting something from "he missing manual" series is not a bad idea....

    I. Do not have the OS and the Applications on different partitions, as Microsofts updaters then does not work.

II. Try to use X as much as possible so that you "get it" form then on it is just fun

Thanks, I've only been using X for two days, but I'm already totally digging it. I'll let you know how I make out when I do the transfer and upgrade.
