Soundtrack: Is it for musicians?

I have been tinkering with the idea of picking up Soundtrack for use in embellishing my original song compositions. I typically write with just an acoustic guitar and my (lousy) voice, but would love to add drums, bass, etc without the complication of recording a keyboard/synth into multiple tracks of Pro Tools (or another MT recorder).

soundtrack appears as though it would be great for this purpose...Easy drum creation, pick a bassline and key, add a synth or two, and away you go. Then just record voice/guitar over the top into their own "loops" , add effects, mix-down and call it a day.

Is this an accurate description of Soundtrack's capabilities? Just tinkering with it in the store it was hard to tell if you could create musical tracks (like an electric guitar) that keep pace with the chord changes in the average mid-tempo rock song because it seems like it was designed to "repeat a cool riff in the key of E until end", rather than changing chords every 8 beats.

Any one using this as described? Input is appreciated as $300 is no chump change.

I'm sure you will be able to do what you want, after all the key correction in soundtrack is great, and you can transpose things to just about any key with no problem, change tempo...etc.

it would be easy to set up chord changes and drum changes.

but I hear what you are saying...kind of like how reason is a great synth/music production software but it is more geared towards making jungle loops

have you thought about getting one of those little practice drum machines? the ones where you can sequence drums, chord changes with any combination of (midi) instruments at any tempo...etc.

they may be midi and kind of cheap sounding but they are really quite fantastic practice and song-writing aides. Like you can easily program in a 1-4-5 in B, or 2-6-5-1 in E or whatever you are going for, or you can make your own progressions.

    something like this.

    Drum Machines

the more high end go for about $350, while the cheapest one is $150

    they are really quite neat.
