heard lots of issues about it... cuz i don't want to spend like $400 and it only works for few months.

because i saw lots of thread about their ipods died in few months. and those LCD problems....

anyone think it's a easy break machine?

and wondering any different between buy from a apple store or a retail store(online) <---cheaper

if they have the protection plan for the ipod, it would be great

What problems with the LCD? Mine is kinda funky rainbowy at the top when not viewed strait on. I understand that it might happen because of the plastic protection, but it seems more then it should be. I'm sure i'm just paranoid.

I got a first genneration 5 gig and I have had no problems with it at all!

The battery life is still great even though the thing is over a year old.

Keep in mind apple has sold millions of these things and the issues you've heard about are only from a few people who have had problems. I'm thinking about upgrading to a 4th genneration iPod because of the new design! Its waaaaaay cooler than mine and thinner too!

It's not just you: I see that on my 5 gig model as well.

Other than that though, my iPod feels like a tank. It gets scratched, yes, but feels good and solid like it could take a serious beating.

The only problem I've had is once after walking to the grocery store with my iPod in my outside pocket it totally crashed once I got there and tried to turn it on? The reason? It would seem that the iPod does not like extreme cold, which in this case, was a routine -30 celcius Canadian winter. Easy way to make sure this never happened again was to keep the iPod closer to my body. The battery also doesn't like cold weather and obviously drains faster when its in a cold environment.

Overall though, my only regret has been not buying a bigger size ! If you can afford and iPod, be sure to get it.

Yep, rainbow on 15 gig exactly as described. But "lots of issues"? You haven't been hanging around Apple's discussion boards have you gNYp? 'Cause my impression of how the iPod is generally regarded would be the exact opposite.

So to balance the ledger a bit. I've had a 3rd gen iPod since just after they were released. It's used for both work and play, has sustained extremely heavy use (at least 5 hours a day since the day I got), it's used with headphones, powered speakers, stereos and in the car, it has already saved me a small fortune in cds and is far more reliable, it has not only my own dirty mitts but those of dozens of kids and teenagers pawing all over it constantly. It's scratched as all hell and it wears it's scratches proudly. The idea of life without it is unbearable.

    Convinced?

Got my rev 1 in April 2002. Works great with plenty of battery life and the screen is just as clear as the day I bought it. I'd buy another one.

The only thing that I don?t like about the iPod is the price. MD failed, for me, it broke just as the warranty ran out, so I went back to my CD walkman. If I had the $$$ I?d buy an iPod, but I got to keep on putting money away for University.

That would be splendid, iPod need to be able to record from a mic. Then I would definitely buy one, then bootleg all the concerts I go to, would defiantly beat tape recording.

iPod can definitely take a reasonable beating given I dropped mine on concrete and it showed no effects.

My only complaint would be the cord from the iPod remote seemed very poorly done on mine and very quickly actually came loose from the connection just before the iPod. Beyond that it's all good.
