Kind of funny how it's on msnbc, but that's not too significant other than a metric of the fact that Gates owns a lot of stuff.
If I were in his shoes, with a lot of money, I sometimes wonder what I'd do with it. Sometimes I think the most compassionate move is to withhold. I'm not too well versed on the African situation with sicknesses of all sorts, but I know it's not pretty.
But perhaps a more compassionate solution in the long term (and one we can all do) is to be hard against the powers that be that insist on building subsidies around non-staple crop production in 3rd world countries.
