Will Panther Have Any OpenGL Updates?

What version of OpenGL does Jag use right now?

What is the latest version of OpenGL?

Does Silicon Graphics "own" OpenGL, or is it really "open"?

Can anyone tell me the major reasons why its "better" than Direct X9?

Will MS's 3D APIs ever run in OS X?

Does Linux and other flavors of UNIX use or support OpenGL?

What is ATI and NVIDIAS motivation for supporting OpenGL?

Kickaha and Amorph couldn't moderate themselves out of a paper bag. Abdicate responsibility and succumb to idiocy. Two years of letting a member make personal attacks against others, then stepping aside when someone won't put up with it. Not only that but go ahead and shut down my posting priviledges but not the one making the attacks. Not even the common decency to abide by their warning (afer three days of absorbing personal attacks with no mods in sight), just shut my posting down and then say it might happen later if a certian line is crossed. Bullshit flag is flying, I won't abide by lying and coddling of liars who go off-site, create accounts differing in a single letter from my handle with the express purpose to decieve and then claim here that I did it. Everyone be warned, kim kap sol is a lying, deceitful poster.

Now I guess they should have banned me rather than just shut off posting priviledges, because kickaha and Amorph definitely aren't going to like being called to task when they thought they had it all ignored *cough* *cough* I mean under control. Just a couple o' tools.

Don't worry, as soon as my work resetting my posts is done I'll disappear forever.

Panther will be fully up to date with the newest OpenGL standards.

I believe Jag currently uses OpenGL 1.4...the 2.0 spec isn't ready yet, in any case.

The latest version of OpenGL is 1.4.

Silicon Graphics came up with the idea and the original versions, but there is now an Architectural Review Board that controls how it progresses.

DX# is a pain in the ass to program for. It doesn't implement new features very well at all. OpenGL allows for extensions to be built into the existing model, which makes it a joy to work with. There is a good reason why Lord Carmack avoids DX# at all costs.

DX# applications will never run in OS X.

All *NIX flavors support OpenGL extremely well. Silicon Graphics started OpenGL on it's own IRIX workstations, after all.

ATI & Nvidia support OpenGL because it is hands-down the best 3D API to work with. The open source nature allows them to make OpenGL drivers for any OS on the market. You sure as hell can't install a DX# driver on OS X or Linux.

Just do a google search of "opengl history" or something and you'll find all you need, or just go to the OpenGL webpage.

If I'm not mistaken if "you" want to use OpenGL you have to pay SGI. They still "own" it.

How so? I've written tons of little OpenGL apps, and I've certainly never had to pay SGI anything.

hi, sorry this is completely unrelated, but i just have a simple question, and i didn't want to start a new thread for it. i thought, too, that genius bar was the most appropriate forum, so i just picked the most recent thread to post in.

i'm just wondering: is 10.2.8 all fixed now? i read a lot about a bunch of the bugs it had when first released. but i htought i also read that it was fixed. so is it safe, and more importantly, is it WORTH IT to download the update?

    gracias.
