powerbooks were recently updated. so, now we have a new lineup for the most part cough.ibooks.cough

PowerMac G5

1. low cost dual option

2. smaller case or more rotating media drive bays in existing size

3. bundled speakers (i dont think this is stupid. for the amount we're paying you should be getting something more than a built-in mono speaker)

PowerBook G4

1. higher res screen (little more on each one)

2. optical audio out

3. better battery technology/life

*way to stay on once lid is closed (altho i assume this could cause cooling issues)

iBook

1. G4

2. 13 inch display

3. new case with a darker tone

iMac

1. TV tuner with PVR functions

2. G5

3. optical audio out

eMac

1. new and better looking case

2. optical audio out

3. lower prices

Displays

1. widescreen 17 inch

2. USB 2 hubs

3. New stand that is more adjustable and higher

iPod

1. darker color option (a graphite or black one)

2. more games

3. include x amount of free iTMS downloads when purchased

I don't know enough about servers to say what the xserve needs so i won't.

This can already operate with the lid closed. Apple supports this.

I disagree with making optical audio standard. If it is at all expensive it should not be standard as it is still rare.

Apart from that I think you could add optical audio via that PC card slot or a FW connector.

A tad more screen resolution would be nice.

More battery life would be nice too.

    iMac

I agree that adding a TV tuner and PVR function would be really nice. Probably the tuner should be external to account for various countries and cable systems.

    Speed.

Apple's weakness, more than any other area, is simply raw speed.

Dual 3GHz G5s soon in a system would be a nice start, with a 2GHz+ G5 model for the consumer systems sometime after that.

Well I know that before I even consider a G5 it will need more accessible drive slots at the fron of the machine. One of these could be a 3.5" slot bay for multiformat card readers. As a substitute I'd be happy if apple added their own Compact Flash slot at the front of the machine. Also for the G5 more dual models. Especially what they are calling the high end. High end ought to get you a high end video card and a reasonable amount of money.

The new power books really impress me. But everything can be improved, here I'd like to see more memory and built in support for multiple mouse buttons. The only other thing I have a big desire for is totally out of Apples domain, but I'd really like to see a short wave reciever built into a laptop. Such a radio feature is not likely to happen but maybe they could meet me half way and add AM/FM/WeatherChannel.

Some pwople may be rolling around laughing their *&&@* off but I can see the utility. Lets face it if someone is willing to listen to CD with a laptop then they a desire for radio recption must be there also. By the way I understnad that there is a huge interfernece issue from the laptop itself, but hey Apple exists to solve problems and breach new markets.

    Thanks

    Dave

the current powerbook and past powerbooks can only operate with the lid closed if it is connected to an exernal monitor and an external keyboard and mouse. i am talking about being able to use it without those and then closing the lid and it not going to sleep. pc laptops do this and it would be a nice option. i have to leave my lid open 24/7 because it always goes to sleep and as a result the screen and keyboard gets very dusty and it also takes up more space than it has to and is more vurnerable to damage.

optical audio i doubt is expensive and most pcs have it now because soundblaster cards have had it for years. it may be rare but it opens up a realm of possibilities for macs that have it beyond just hooking up a receiver and getting 5.1 sound. it basically turns your mac into a potential studio for nothing.
