Yes, its probably the hardest thing a "non native" american can understand or be accepting of. The ol' "I wouldn't be here if it weren't for Columbus" bullshit. But still, the fact is true and its sad to say the least. We were taught in schools that he was a great man and "hero" for dicovering "America". Its how he (them and we) who "took it" that wasn't elaborated though...what if?...
LOL Willoughby you got me. Hook ...line ...Sinker.
I'm kinda torn on this. I haven't read any books claiming atrocities by Christopher Columbus himself but there is a general consensus by historians that the Conquistadors were a ruthless lot. I cannot blame Columbus unless I have more info.
Not Unlike Myself. I just recently heard about that book. I think I will check it out. It may make for interesting reading. Thanks a million!
Christopher Colombus has changed the face of the world in 1492. This is a very important date in history. The world changed. Changed do not mean improved, but means that things accelerated greatly after 1492.
America of today will be different without Christopher Columbus. I do not have read story discribing this man, commiting many atrocities. I read that he was very concerned by gold and money : he was guided by the quest of richness. He made the mistake to put in place his brother, who was a lame governor. If my memory is good the problems started there.
The history was sad for native americans. But knowing people of this time, and of the next centuries, only the law of the most powerfull prevailed. I am not sure that it's so different today.
The other book I really really enjoyed was Pastwatch
Although Sci-fi I found it fantastic. I got onto card for the 'Ender' books but this one took me by surprise. Slow starting but good reading. His love life was particularly interesting.

Nah, they didn't discover 'our' country. However if they did, I suppose we'd cheer them.

Go kill an Indian.
You mean Native American.
Just kidding!!!
But my advice (if you do buy it) would be to skip the last 3 chapters or so. (just personal opinion)
