DVD Burner Errors

I can no longer burn DVD's using either iDVD or DVD Studio Pro. This began this past week (after having worked on a project that took me up through Christmas).



DVD Studio Pro (OS 9.22, DSP v. 1.1) gives me an error of "The device reported a media error: Power calibration error. (0x73, 0x03)"



iDVD (OS X 10.1.2, iDVD 2.0.5) gives the error "The recording device reported the illegal request: Buffer underrun. (0x21, 0x02)."



I've ruined 4 different DVDs trying to burn three different projects (anywhere from 5 minutes in length to 105 minutes).



It burns CD-Rs correctly.



Anyone else have this kind of problem? The errors lead me to think it's either the drive itself or the power supply.

I think it uses a different laser for DVD burning than for CD burning.



Have you been to the knowledge base at their site yet? It's always a good place to start.



If that doesn't help, I'd call Apple and get some warranty stuff happening.

I looked into Apple Knowledge Base. Apparently several people are having similar problems. No fix/solutions have been proposed or discovered. One posting suggests that the person had been promised a firmware update a month ago -- though nothing has been forthcoming.
