Beige G3 - Wont Upgrade to 10.2 from 10.1

Recently I decided to upgrade my Rev. A Beige G3 233 Minitower with the Apple configured 9gb USCSI drive.

I installed the SCSI patch in 9, formatted and installed 10.1.4, then upgraded that to 10.1.5.

Anytime I try to install 10.2 (retail CD version 6C115), the install process decides to stop at "Preparing the Disk."

I really want to use iTunes music sharing, and need 10.2.4+ for it. I have tried both a retail set of Jaguar discs (10.2) and an upgrade set of Jaguar discs (10.2). Is there anything I am doing wrong?

Also, after this process happens (or doesn't happen I should say), I can't reboot into 10.1.5, it throws me into open firmware and refuses to recognize the previous X install. Can anyone *please* help me get 10.2 on here? I appreiate any help in advance.

A friend had problems installing on a similar machine, all we got to work was finally putting his hard drive in a newer machine and installing Jag on that, then swapping the hard drive back. It's not a real solution but it worked in one situation. Good luck...

Can you do a full 9 install. Fix the patches, then DON'T format, just do an install over top. Then once you have Panther running toss the old System Folder.

With the beige, you must install Jag completely within the first 8 GB of the hard drive.

This means you have to have the first partition be LESS than 8 GB (7.8 GB worked on my old Beige G3/300) and another partition for the rest.
