OCR Prob With Epson Scanner
I am running OS 9.1. I have just installed the Epson Smart Panel software that came with my new Epson 1660 Photo scanner.
Every scanning function in Smart Panel works OK except OCR. The problem is that the OCR engine won't locate and open a designated word processing application in which to dump the scanned data. Specifically, it will not establish a 'path' between itself and ANY of the applications on my hard drive (Microsoft Word 2001 in particular). I consistently get a message saying that the application has been removed, even though it has not.
I have cleaned out and re-installed the Epson sofware from the install disk multiple times. I have placed the Epson software in the same folder as the Word application in the hope that it might thereby create a path to it. I have used Conflict Catcher to check for conflicts without success.
I have contacted Epson support, who said "oh, its a software problem, please contact the manufacturer, NewSoft." My experience with NewSoft is that they are uninterested in anyone with a Mac OS--they advised me to re-install, check for conflicts and if that doesn't work, to contact Apple in order to solve my problem with their software!!
Has anyone else had this problem, or have suggestions?
Thanks... Allan
