External Hard Drives - Swapping between PC & MAC

Hey,

This may be a dumb question, but if you have an external hard drive that supports both a PC & Mac can you switch between them interchangeably. The only things I would have on the hard drive would be stuff like music and photos. In other words, no programs. Is this possible, or do the hard drives get formatted differently based on which type they are. Thanks for the help.

    Completely differently.

However... the Mac can read most of the native PC formats. The reverse is *not* true however, so you have to format it as a PC drive, (guys, better info for him on which format to use? :} ) then let the Mac do it's magic mojo to play nice with the bully.

I believe dude that you need to format it FAT32... mac cant' read NTFS but FAT32 no probs. Windows can't read HFS+, UNIX or really anything but FAT32, FAT16, and NTFS.
