Panther freezes after waking from sleep.

in macOS edited January 2014
I have a 1Ghz G4 with 768 mb of ram. I have a clean install of Panther of a slave drive. Everything works fine, except when it awakes from sleep, the mouse pointer is gone and everything is frozen (clock and cpu monitor)

The only thing I can think of is that theres a problem with it running of the 66 ata bus?

Am I going to have to make it the Master to sort things out?

EDIT: oh crap ... thought I was in Genius Bar ... CURSES!

update:the screen actally stays frozen for about 30 seconds and then everything is back to normal.
