Tibook 667mhz, 1/2 gig of ram, Jaguar 10.2.6:

try to print screenshots or psd and all i get are pages and pages of what look like postscript text jibberish.

i recently installed GIMP on an older pismo running 10.2.6 and it works perfectly with this epson printer.

but now i installed GIMP to get this epson printer working for this 667 Tibook and i've got jibberish.

there was a full boat of apps on this machine when i got it and i don't have time to wipe the drive and reinstall everything.

there was an HP printer, another epson printer, and "Adobe PDF" set up as the available printers by the former owner. i trashed the HP and the older epson but left the "Adobe PDF".

i'd never seen "Adobe PDF" set up as an available printer. i thought that was weird but didn't want to just trash it without investigating a little.

    I presume you have Acrobat reader.

    Adobe PDF is installed as a printer when Acrobat (full version) is installed - it's to make print-quality PDF files from anything (higher quality than using the system's print-to-pdf feature). In other words, Distiller is installed.

    From what programs are you printing? And to what Epson printer are you printing?

    yes, Acrobat is on here;

    Acrobat Professional 6.0

    Acrobat Distiller 6.0

    i tried printing screenshots from Preview and since that didn't work i opened the screenshot in Photoshop 7, saved it as a psd and tried printing that - no go.

    at the top of the page that prints i get:

    %!PS-Adobe-3.0

    %%Title: (Picture 1.psd)

    %%Creator: (Photoshop: pictwpstops filter 1.0)

    the first line of is always the same:

    %!PS-Adobe-3.0

    whether i print from Photoshop or Preview or even when i tried to print some code from Dreamweaver [and it failed with printing jibberish] it still printed the same first line of:

    %!PS-Adobe-3.0

    so i guess it's a postscript problem but what exactly do i look next?

    Sounds like a postscript encoding error...what printer? What gimp-print driver? Did you install Ghostscript?

    GIMP-Print 4.2.5

    and i couldn't remeber for sure if i installed GhostScript on this machine

    [i just successfully went through this whole thing on a pismo]

    so now i've got GhostScript 7.05.5 installed.

    printer=Epson PhotoEX

    i just tried to test print and i've still got jibberish.

    grr.
