mail problems in panther

I set up mail in 10.3 with all the smtp information from my school and it appears to connect to the server just fine, but the message never leaves my out box. I get no error message or anything, and it appears to connect. Yet the mail never leaves the out box and never arives. I have mail set up the same way on my ibook running 10.2 and it runs just fine. Has anyone else had problems like this?
